Real Talk – My Health Journey Week 1 Recap

It’s Tuesday, and yes, I’m just popping in right now to let you know how the first week went. Guys, I’ve had a lot going on – so as much as I wanted to share this with you bright and early Monday morning that didn’t happen. I was too busy feeding the dog, running errands, working on action plans for my coaching clients, and the list goes on. But now is the time to share just how real week 1 went of this new health journey.

Here’s the quick & dirty version: My first week of this health journey was a total bust, fail, didn’t go as planned, gained weight (yup, you read that right, I freaken gained weight during the week!) and just about everything else went the opposite of the intention I had set out there for this.

So things didn’t go as planned…Am I mad about it?? Honestly, being totally transparent, I’m pretty frustrated with the choices I made last week after getting all excited about finally getting back on track with my health.

BUT, even though I failed in all the things that I wanted to stick to last week (except sleep, I did really great with my sleep last week!) I did learn some valuable lessons that I’ve already started implementing for this week.

Lessons From Week 1:

  • My eating is literally married to my emotions! Yes, I knew this already, but last week I would be so on the go all day long that when I would finally get some time to breathe in the evenings, my stress was all pent up from the day that I ate the stress away. Literally, my days were great with my nutrition up until about 7 or 8 at night. Ufffdaaa.
  • Tracking my food makes all the difference for me staying on track! I definitely noticed that when I had goals set in MyFitnessPal it was so much easier to stick to them.
  • Listen to your body! I was constantly eating last week when I wasn’t actually hungry and when my tummy wasn’t growling. And all I have to say to that is ”Knock it off, Manda”!
  • Having zero or low calorie drinks like sparkling water & diet Snapple Peach Tea are great for when I feel like I need something to eat even though I’m not actually hungry. I also love having an occasional Sugar Free Werther’s Caramel hard candy as a treat throughout the day.

Focus For Week 2:

  • This week I am focusing all on my sleep, moving every day, and tracking all of my nutrition goals and sticking to them.
    • Sleep, I said I wanted 8 hrs, but I’m honestly finding that I need more time in the day if I want to work out so I’m setting my goal for 7 hrs each night. If I feel too tired in my body, I will go back to 8, but I feel this is a good compromise in my schedule
    • Move every day, this week I want to start doing more at home workouts because I only did one last week. I also want to walk at least 5 days/week. (I already got my walking in today!)
    • My other focus is to stick to the new nutrition goals that I set for myself after additional research.

So, this whole week 1 thing, didn’t quite work. Yes, I had some small wins like saying no to pizza on family pizza night at home and skipping on ice cream. I’m proud of myself for that because it’s little decisions like that which help create healthier habits.  But I gained weight in the middle of the week and just felt icky.

My Motivation Tip For YOU: I know people hate taking before pictures, but girl, if you are on a health journey like me, then take them! Try on a piece of clothing that used to be big on you that now doesn’t zip up. (Yes, that actually happened to me this weekend) Taking those “before” pictures and pictures of me in my favorite dress that no longer fits made me really, really realize for the first time just how much weight I have gained and how it has shown up on my body. So girl, just take the pictures already and stop putting them off.  These will help you & me see the progress we make on our own health journeys

Alright, I’m outta here now! Drop any comments or questions that you have below and I would love to answer them and connect with you! Seriously though, drop any questions below and let’s chat about it more! Last week I was so overwhelmed by all the kind and encouraging posts, emails, and notes that people sent my way to support me on this journey. You all are the best!! THANK YOU! And, if you need accountability, just let me know because that’s a big part of what I do as a professional life & leadership coach.  🙂

Big hugs & so much love,

Amanda
